My Brownie Girl Scouts enjoy camping, most years we go when its to cold and raining outside and can’t enjoy the hiking trails. But when we have nice weather we take advantage of the Girl Scout trails.
I have done many different type of hikes in the past with girls so I also share different variations of hikes to take your girls on.

GIRL SCOUT CHANT
We are Girl Scouts can’t you see?
Come along and sing with me.
Sound off: 1,2
Bring it on down now: 1,2,3,4….1,2..3,4
We are Girl Scouts don’t you know?
Exercise will help us grow.
We are Girl Scouts, we have fun.
We all like to scream and run.
Girl Scouts are the best around,
We have friends all over town.
On my honor we will try,
This Promise is what we live by.
Helping others is our quest,
Troop ______ is the best.
Hiking Scavenger Hunt
Instead of just hiking with no purpose, lets make it a scavenger hunt. This can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it. Before starting out make a list of items you want everyone to find on trail. Object of game is the first person to find everything wins. Make sure to explain to your girls you will not actually collect the objects, because you want to Leave no trace, but also you want to leave it better than you found it, so with that said put a piece of litter on your list – that would be something you would collect. Maybe sticks and deb-re on path – that could be cleaned up and moved off path. Complete a service project while taking a hike.
Ideas for hunt:
- A yellow flower
- A squirrel
- Something red
- Round rock
- Piece of litter (Bring a bag to collect all litter found)
- Something a human made
New To Camping?
One of the best parts about being a Girl Scout is learning how to be independent and strong, and going camping is a great way to do that. But if your a new Girl Scout Leader or you just don’t camp often there are some important safety things to think about with fire, putting up a tent, and what to bring I found a great starter guide for beginners you will want to check out. When Girl Scouts go camping, they learn how to be resourceful and self-reliant in a whole new way. Take a look at this camping guide from Personal Creations. It shows you how to pitch a tent, build a fire, and go fishing all with your own two hands. How empowering! Check it out before your next Girl Scout camping trip.
